Your Canadian host family

As a High School Year student, you can choose to live with either an English-speaking or French-speaking family. All families are rigorously screened. No matter your preference, you will find that your Canadian host family is warm and friendly.

Living with a Canadian host family

Living in Canada will be a rewarding experience, one that leads to personal growth and independence. Your Canadian host family will welcome you into their house with enthusiasm, and soon you will feel like part of the family. They will ensure you receive guidance and care throughout your time there.

Canadian traditions

Our families come from a variety of backgrounds and places. Some live in small communities and others near bigger cities, but all want to share their culture with you. You will enjoy fun family traditions, which might include a Canadian “white Christmas,” a maple syrup festival or “Hockey Night in Canada,” a popular TV sports broadcast. As part of the family, you will be expected to help with household activities, such as setting the table and keeping your room clean.

A supportive family environment

Studying in a foreign language can be challenging, particularly in the first few weeks as you adapt to new surroundings, and a caring family environment will help you adjust and feel at home. Soon, Canada will feel like your second home and you might eventually start dreaming in English or in French. Your student exchange year in Canada will expand your horizons and you will forever enjoy having a second family in a foreign country.
